I guess its I have the advantage of working at a small shop. I just got my PADI DM and I work part time in the store. I did an internship for my DM class so of course that work wasfree. I get paid at hourly for my work in the shop and get my gear basically at cost. (probably doing "key man" for a dry suit) Yes I'll help with classes for free but I get my admission/air..etc paid for and I get to go on trips for free or discounted. I dont mind it. It works fine for me and I want the extra time with students to make me a better instructor when the time comes.
