Does anyone have drawings for spring heel straps with the dimentions , spring size , spring or strap length per size fin , sm,med, large, ect. also different clasps for different fins ect.

If you look in the DIY forum here on SB there are several threads on making spring straps. Most of them have been several months ago so you would need to use the search feature or a fair amount of digging to find them.

I did one on how I put spring straps on my Quatros and other people did several ways of putting them on Jets.

You wont find dimensions. The spring fit is custom and trial and error and means you'll need a good pair of needle nose pliers and precise wire cutters. I think they use 1" S.S. S-clip (truevalue hardware) and get the proper McmasterCarr springs and accept no substitute and be wary of premade spring straps that may use inferior spring material. My buddies $35 s-straps have already strected handling half the tension load mine homemade ones have.

You'll also need a good sized pair of pliers to bend the S-clip.
Note: Once properly on, these clips dont come off too easy if at all.

I also added tabs made of strap material to prings to pull them off with thick 3 finger mittens on my hands.

I did not use a string inside the spring.

They are easy and fun to make

Good luck

Chris

A few comments...

first off - the only spring you're going to find from McMaster Carr is 11". That's all they offer unless you want to buy a 20" spring. Now, the good news is that an 11" spring fits the vast majority of people out there.

Secondly - there is no substitute for stainless steel. The McMaster Carr springs are great - in fact, for my springs, I buy them wholesale directly from the manufacturer, rather than go through McMaster Carr.

Good hardware to connect the spring to the fin is essential. Some folks use S hooks, which work if you have to. The design referenced above doesn't use anything - I think that's a mistake. You can get quality stainless steel anchor shackles (3/16" is what you'll need for most non-Jet Fins) for about $3 or $4 per shackle. Unfortunately, that adds $12-$15 to the cost of a set, but there really is no substitute.

And running without an internal spring is definitely an option, but personally, I think it's a mistake. It's simply there to prevent you from overstretching the spring. That's especially an issue on a wavy shore entry or something, where you can get knocked askew and end up reefing on your straps.

Ive overstretched the springs beyond belief with no permanent deformation but wouldnt do this often. That string was to constricting in rough surf diving.

I forgot to mention the anchors and would go this route regardless of cost since its not as permanent as S- clips. For the value SS Springs add dont worry about the cost as long as they are built properly. You'll love em.

That's what I am saying, Please use "Search" You can't miss it.

Thanks folks , I've ordered the springs from a local supplier as per the mcmaster carr spec's here in thailand. Cost for 4x 11" long using 0.62 ss wire was $15. I'll post some pic's when i am done.

Again , thanks for everyones input. :dazzler1:

I just put the springs on another pair of fins with S.S. S-Hooks

One end just slip loop over S-Clip
The other end cut-off loop then bend back 4 coils then slide on S-hook

Seems good for size 8-9 feet.
