I know this isn't really Dive Rite specific, though it is a DR backplate/rig! ;)

Has anyone got any experience with taking a SS BP as part of your hand luggage allowance on airplanes? I have tried contacting the airlines, but they seem fairly non-committal and just lump it in to "dive equipment" and that it's ok. The problem is, if it isn't ok with security and gets confiscated then that would obviously suck.

I'm looking to offset some gear weight by taking it as hand luggage but am wondering if anyone has done this and run up against security issues because it is a large hunk of metal that could be used as a weapon!?

Cheers
Luke

I have carried my on four different trips and it was looked at once and pass without a problem. I won't worry about it.

I've carried mine on about twenty times without incident, but not since the last "scare."

DITTO....no problem as carry on.

OTOH, I wanted to move a weighted STA into my carryon on a return from Cancun a couple of years back and they wouldn't let me, said I could club somebody with it.
