Hi I'm looking at heading to Sri Lanka for the first time this coming July. It's a family trip, combination of having a look around as well as doing some diving. From what I have read, we need to stay on the eastern side for diving at that time of year so I was thinking of splitting the time between Colombo, Baticaloa and Trincomalee and doing a couple of days diving in each.

I would appreciate any input from those that know the area as well as any recommendations for particular dive sites, dive operators and accommodation.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Lee

We dived from Trincomalee about 10 years ago, did not really think it was worth the trip. You’ll get wet, but don’t expect to see a lot.

The only place I've dived was HMS Hermes, which was amazing but it is a technical dive being 50m.

Five of my friends dived in Sri Lanka last year in three different groups and the feedback was "loads of nudis"

Trincomalee was not overwhelming according to three of them who regularly dive with me here in UAE.

These were taken in Colombo within the past week.

Definitely sounds a bit hit or miss depending on the location. Might be worth considering focusing more on the touring aspects with family if diving isn't super reliable. Could still do an intro dive or two maybe but wouldn't make it the main event. Colombo seems a safe bet and maybe look into other inland spots too. Enjoy the trip whenever you work out the plans - Sri Lanka is gorgeous regardless!

We’ve decided to go back to Bali instead and try a new diving area - Pemuteran- that we hvnt done before. Will try to get to Sri Lanka another time.
