I imagine this has been discussed before...my apologies in advance.

I have spring straps on my Jet Fins and used the wire provided to attach them. I have managed to pull the wire out on a couple of occasions at the end of dives. Not a big issue, but a bother.

I believe I have seen some folks use fishing line in place of the wire. Is this a good practice? Is there a down side? I think I could actually get the line in with the wire as a backup...any comments?

I cannot imagine how you are pulling loose the straps if the "wire" is properly inserted into the fin.

Because I am 6'6" and workout when I am not diving!!!

Seriously, I probably did not assemble them correctly. I have re-loaded them and I "think" I have the wire better aligned. However, I DID see the cave line method and it seemed more fail safe than the wire that I can bend with my hands.

Still would be interested in comments on the cave line idea...

did you use a large pair of pliers to "bite" down on the wire and make sure it
penetrates into the hole?

I did this time, for sure. I am thinking one end rolled up on itself when I clamped it down the first time.

Well that's nice but not likely to cause the springs to come loose unless they are not properly installed. It took me a couple of attempts to get the wire/hole orientation right. Then I used a table mounted vise to push the wire into the fins.

I assume that your spring-straps look something like this:http://www.green-manelishi.info/main/diving/images/turtlefinspringstrap.jpg

A friend of mine did in fact use very thin, stainless leader, wrapped several times through the hole. He had to do it several times in order to make certain the leader would not cut back through the fin when the spring was under tension.
