Trying to determine what size I need to order here...I use SP twin-jet fins size Large. One one hand, I've been told I need to get a size smaller when using the spring fin straps i.e. a small or medium, and I've also been told I should get the same spring strap size as my current fin size i.e. Large. So which is it?

I made a set for my size large blades and used a spring 11" long and .5 dia .062 wire from mcmaster. My brother liked them so I made him a set for his twin-jets using the same springs.
I hope this helps

PS. I think this should be in the DIY forum.

I use Large SP Jets (not twins though) and I went with the medium springs. Of course it all depends on how far your feet stick out of the pockets. Someone on here used to have a spring size chart on their personal web page. I can't remember who. Maybe they'll post it again.

No need to change fins, just put them on, measure, and order the correct length spring. For example, the manta spring straps have this sizing chart:

Hopefully the other manufacturers will get smart someday and do the same thing...

I agree with roakey, put your foot in your fin and measure from the mounting point (the front pin on the buckle) on one side of the fin around your heal to the other side. It will probably read around 12" or so, leave a couple inches for extension and there you have the length of the spring you need.

Easy way bring the fins and booties to your LDS if they carry them .

I disagree. There should be very little force on your foot from the spring, so very little spring extension. If there is force it'll drive your toes into the front of the footpocket and it will be very uncomfortable.

Spring strap length is *very* critical.

I measured my Quattros from front of post to front of post and it was about 14 3/4", the Manta large straps (14 1/2") fit perfect. I have a size 13 foot.
