Hello NorCal!
You may have noticed some threads moving from the main NorCal forum to the Trips and Local Marketplace forum today.
Normally, I would PM people about their threads being moved, but today I moved enough to just post a general announcement. I went back to the first of the year with a little reorganization.
We're trying to keep a certain amount of standardization thoughout the board so that when people go into forums for different regions around the world, things have a familiar feel to them. It keeps navagating throughout the board more friendly.
I did this in the SoCal forum a while back and it worked out nicely as far as organization goes. We were simply bringing things in line with what other forums have already been doing for a long time. We're just beginning to adhere to the standard.
In the main forum you might have your trip reports, a local area "roll call" as a short list for dive buddies in the area, discussions about local issues or proposals, advice to visitors about diving in the area, etc.
For example, a disscussion took place about starting a new club which you've all decided to call Northcoast divers.
In SoCal, we've recently had discussions about a new resort that is being built on the Old Marineland property. They are planning to put a golf course in and many people are worried about the run off from the golf course polluting the water and destroying the environment in what may be one of the richest ecosystems in SoCal.
Here's what belongs in the Trips and Local Marketplace forums.
Any promotional or announcement type of thread whether it be for profit or non-profit goes in the Trips and Local Marketplace forums. This applies to both individuals, clubs or commercial entities.
Something is defined as a "trip" as soon as a couple of people are actually getting together.
Let me explain with a couple of examples. If someone posts that they are looking for someone to dive with in the main forum, that's OK. If no one ever puts a plan together to go and dive it will just remain there, since it did not turn into a trip. As soon as someone says that they'll join in, it is now a trip and the thread will get moved to the Trips and Local Marketplace forum. These threads just get moved and no notice is sent. The thread could also get started in the Trips and Local Marketplace forum and simply remain there regardless of the response.
In SoCal we put our larger monthly beach dives and boat dives into the Trips and Local Marketplace forum to start with and do all of our planning there. You could do the same with your Northcoast Divers events.
I know that Wristshot has been off racing around the mountains on skis for the winter and I just wanted to give him a hand with some of this organization. Now that the summer is coming, I expect that the forum will start to get pretty busy and that you'll be diving all over Monterey and now the northern beaches with ZKY leading the charge!
I use the SoCal forum as an example because it's the one I'm most familiar with, but their are many others like the Florida Conch Divers forum that operate the same way and have found this to be helpful when the forum gets busy.
I hope that this helps keeps things more organized and easy to find.
Dive safe!
