Hi All: I just got back (3/11) from the Keys. I got to dive the Grove, the Benwood and the Eagle. The Grove was awesome. We dove it 3 times and wanted more. The Benwood was kind of boring, but the other divers wanted a shallow dive instead of diving the Grove a second time. Actually, it was only one diver who wanted to play with his scooter. Ocean Divers has to go to the advertised site unless everyone agrees. The day we dove the Eagle there was such a strong current that I had trouble even getting down the line. It was hand over hand pulling. Then I couldnot let go of the ship. I got tired real fast. I can't wait to go back. I can highly recommend Ocean Divers in Key Largo. Oh yeah, I brought along my drysuit and wore only my shorty. Air temp was high 80s and water between 72 and 76. For us hearty northerners that's shorty temps.

I dove the Grove last year with a few friends. I agree, it's a fantastic wreck made even more so by the fact that it's on it's side. It looks like it's actually a wreck and not an artifical reef. We dove with Ocean Divers as well, great group of people. My only regret was the short time we had on the wreck. One of the guys that went with me was a new diver, only 20 or so dives, and he sucked air like it was the last tank of it on earth. We made it as far as the entrance to the well deck just aft of mid ship and he had about 1000 PSI left. We turned around and spent the rest of the dive on the top near the moring line. Total dive time, 18 minutes. We didn't get to see much but I hope to do it again this summer.

I personally like the Benwood. It can be a really fun dive. It is shallow, so there is more life on it than the deeper wrecks. You have to go peeking in the crevices to find the really great stuff. But, I agree, the SG is awsome.

Who did you dive with for the Eagle? Ocean Divers does not make that trek, at least I have never seen them out there.

Its been done by special arrangement but you're right, she's much too far for normal operations, would require a full-day trip.
