Would anyone know if there is a website somewhere that would have detail layouts of the Spiegel Grove, Duane and or Bibb. We're planning a several dives on each and would like to see where the penetrations and depths are for each. I'd also appreciate any suggestions on diving these wrecks.

I don't know of any specific websites that deal with these wrecks but most of the dive shops have some detail of the ships if you want to purchase. A lot of times if you just ask, they will talk and show you them anyway.

There isn't much left of the Bibb and is a highly over rated dive in my opinion. Its spread out all over the ocean. The Eagle, on the other hand, is a great dive in the area and I highly recommend it.

We just came back from diving the Duane, Spiegel and the Eagle 2 weeks ago. It was my 2nd trip to the area so I am no expert. They are all very good dives but are also Advanced dives. I can't tell your cert level or expereience so don't take this wrong.

No problem... I hold Divemaster with PADI, Advanced Instructor with SSI and use finished my TDI cert. Had never been to this wreck before and I always like to try and get as much info as I can before the dive. Just the way I like to do things.

Not a thing wrong with that. You would think that information like this would be easily available but most of the time it is not. If you do a search on the wrecks you can find some information but not alot of detail other than the original layout of the wreck. The Spiegle Grove probably has the most as it gets most of the publicity and their are several websites out there.

BTW: Check out the Bull sharks as you come down on the Duane. Keep your eyes open as they will take off when divers are present. They hang out on the bottom of the wreck and are quite large (or at least that is my story and I am stickin' to it).

I hope someone on here can give you more detail. Capt Gary at Conch Republic is a regular on here and can likely give you plenty of information on detail. Send him a PM.

Have the hurricanes changed it?? I liked it!!

I dived the Bibb in 2003, when I came up the first words out of my mouth were......"I want to come back here with doubles!!"

I didn't get to do the Speigle Grove, we got blown out that day, The Eagle and the Duane are great dives, we did each several times.

I was there in Jan 04 and it was a bunch of metal laying over on itself. Not much left and what is there I certainly wouldn't get that close to it. A bunch of sheets of steel laying on the bottom. Its funny. I heard that the Duane and the Bibb were put down at almost the same time and they are very close to each other but they are certainly in differnt conditions. Now the Eagle on the other hand....great dive.

This is weird. I did the Bibb towards the end of 2003 and it wasn't in much different shape to the Duane. Yes, a bit in the middle was sagging slightly, but the main hull was fine, as well as the bridge and superstructure. It is deeper than the Duane – think I hit 45m on the seabed – but for all intents and purposes, it looked just like the Duane, only on its side.

The only wreck I've dived in that area which is a load of flat plates overlapping one another, etc, is the Benwood, but that is only in 16m, so I can't imagine there has been confusion between the two.

We are going in April 2006 and here is first site I found with pretty good descriptions of all three (Spiegel Grove, Duane and Bibb) and pics!

Not necessarily as much detail as you wanted as far as penetrations and depths but enough to get started . . .

I just got back from the Eagle, Duane, and SG - It was my second time diving the SG and the Eagle.

The SG is easy to penetrate, as there are large holes cut in the sides, and many of the doors have been removed... The SG also has ropes run through many of the hallways.

The Duane, is similar, where the doors have been removed, and lower decks are sealed, to prevent penetration into unsafe areas.

The Grove is SO big... You should have a plan as to what you want to see.

The Eagle is a GREAT wreck, and you can see most of it on one dive. For all of those dives, the average depths on the Duane and Eagle are around 100' with the bottom at about 120'... The SG... you can go to 132' to look at sand. You can spend the whole dive at 90' and see a lot.

I believe you are thinking of a different wreck. The BIBB is in approximately 135 fsw on her side, and is quite intact. Perhaps you are thinking of the CITY OF WASHINGTON or BENWOOD?
