This regarding the HOG SPG. I have no authorized dealers anywhere within my vicinity.

I was wondering what an annual service of a HOG SPG consists of. If it's just replacing the Spool, would it be considered safe-good form to do this myself yearly. Or is there something else that needs to be done?

Spool is easily replaced. So are the O-rings. If it's used with >40% O2, then have a qualified tech do it.

Thanks rigdiver. Is there anything else that's done during an annual service besides that?

O-ring @ 1st stage. Better to use Viton, and it's the -010 size if I remember correctly. This is not rocket science;) You can do this.

It's so easy, even a rocket scientist can do it! And that's saying something. (I used to work with a few when I was and engineer back in the 80s).

Correct, and -003 for the spool o-rings

Depending on the shop, hose to 1st stage O-rings may, or may not, be changed. Most shops will not touch the SPG spool O-rings unless asked. So, ask them to change out the spool o-rings or learn to do it yourself. In reality most spool o-rings are only changed when they start to leak.

When I was working with a shop servicing regs we always took the SPG and hose apart at annuals. Mainly because many of the regs we got in were from once a year divers and more often than not they did not seem to put much faith in rinsing regs. At the minimum I pull apart, inspect, and relube with christo lube on recreational set ups.

Excellent! Guess I'm solid in that department. Thanks everyone for your response.

One more quick question though. When I got my SPG, the guy who assembled it put some christo lube around the threading of my SPG. It caused a tiny bubble leak when I first tried it out. So I took it apart and cleaned the thread.
Is there any reason to lube the thread or was the guy just being sloppy?

I don't know why he'd lube the threads. It might help to prevent corrosion but if the reg is properly taken care of it is not necessary. We use goop on High Pressure fittings at work but those are taking 50,000 psi but those are all stainless steel fittings and torqued to much more than you'd do with a scuba reg.
