I'm heading to Bonaire next month for a week and will be staying at Sanddollar. I have taken the classroom work for a couple of specialties with SSI, and want to do the water portion while I'm down there. Does anybody have any input on any SSI instructors down there? I want to do wreck, deep, and computer specialties. Thanks in advance for the input.

crash,

I'm not sure about SSI, but I know that most dive shop can handle referrals, no problem. I know that there is a certified SSI shop, but not sure which one. If you want to do some deep, wreck (deco dives) you really need to contact Walter at Rek Tek. He is probably the best on the island and can arrange for you to do some awesome, challanging dives. Just ask your dive shop (I am assuming BDA - talk with Andre, the owner) and he can make all the arrangements for you.

Black Durgon is an SSI facility on Bonaire. Have not attended any of their trainings but they are great people. Would have no problem using them or recommending them. Email Al at the Black Durgon Inn and he can answer your questions etc.

I'm pretty sure Buddy dive can do SSI referrals

Enjoy!

Staying at Sand Dollar, the on-site diveop is Bonaire Dive & Adventure. This is from their website:
PADI and SSI courses are available for all ages and range from beginner through Dive master.

Bonaire Dive & Adventure is also a Universal Referral Facility. We can certify students for 7 agencies: IDEA, NASDS, NAUI, PDIC, SSI, YMCA scuba and SDI.

As mentioned earlier, BDA should be able to supply an SSI instructor to complete your courses. My wife and I both completed our SSI open water referrals with them several years ago when it was still Sand dollar Dive. Plus they have some of the cheapest rates for nitrox on the island. We'll be diving with them when we go back Feb 2 through 9.
