I am looking to get my first speargun for fishing in FLA waters. I have been looking into Mares, AB biller, and JBL. I'm seeking a latex band propelled device.

Any suggestions on size, model, etc. I'd prefer to not spend more than $200 on a unit.

???

Don't get a spear gun. They swim up to you. It isn't sport to kill them. Look at the fish instead.

Lawman,
I understand your statement. However, I am a vegetarian and eat only seafood. I only take what I can use, and sparingly. I don't 'kill' for fun. I take only what I am prepared to consume.

In hunting myself, I take responsibility for my own killing. I don't see speargun fishing much different that lobstering, deer hunting, or sport fishing.

Personally I don't eat anything I can't look in the eye, and kill myself. Nobody said anything about 'sport'.

I didn't know a fish was a plant!!

Kracken,
Obviously you don't know about the differant 'types' of vegans. Some eat no fish or red meat, some eat fish only, some consume dairy products and eggs, while other don't.

Sorry there is nobody here that can help you. Try an A.B. Biller Floridian. It's a mid range gun that's powerful enough for cobia, grouper and large snapper but it won't blow a flounder in two either.

Try www.spearboard.com These guys are all great and will help you out with your quest.

These Scuba guys...well...This thread is a perfect example of this board.

Good Luck.

My understanding is that there are multiple types of vegetarians, but that vegans are of only one type. Vegans are vegetarians in the extreme. They truly eat only plants, with not even any dairy or dairy by-products.

Vegetarian by definition means only eating plants, but some people stretch that definition by eating/drinking dairy products, and yes, even by inluding sea dwelling meat. It really isn't vegetarianism any more, but people want that feeling of being part of the vegetarian culture, so they call themselves vegetarian.

This from a dedicated omnivore with strong carnivorous leanings.
