Just got back from the West Palm area. I have lots of video to edit and put together. But I threw this together for the guy in the video. I didn't do any color correction, just edited the segments for right now. Keep in mind this was shot with a P&S Sealife DC 800. So its not all that great, but it works for right now. At least till the new rig arrives. Enjoy, and feel free to leave feedback. All I can say at this point...practice, practice, practice.

Oh ignore the intermittent beep, its an issue with the camera, I need to update the camera's drivers.

I still haven't exactly figured it out yet. Gates just announced two new housings for the Sony 500 and Canon S10. And I was thinking maybe there will be some really good deals now on the Gates HC-9 housing since it is discontinued. But the FX7 is still in the running. After my week diving trip to Florida, it has become clear that I need to really take size and weight into account. A lot more then I had anticipated. The only draw back to going with the FX-7 is the housing. For example Gates is very expensive, with the housing, a wide port and external monitor your at $10K. Now I spoke with a few guys that have had the S10 and 500V in there hands, and they are saying there amazing. A couple steps up from any of the older models. And the Canon S10 has a 24Mbps bandwidth, which means your getting HDV quality without actually using tape. Both rigs are supposed to be awesome in low light. But the downfall, $1300.00, for $700.00 more your getting a 3 cmos over a single. But then again, now were into big money for housings. The new gates housing will not need external monitors, they will look like the HC-9 housing.

And after this last trip, I dove a lot of 90 and 100 foot reefs. And quickly learned that a good lighting system is gonna be a must. So right now, I am still in the air. But it seems size and weight are going to have a big effect on what I get. The S10 comes out in 4 weeks, and I think Gates said 4 - 6 weeks for housings. So I think the smart thing to do is wait for the S10 and new Gates housings. So that I can properly weigh my options.

I have heard a few people tell me, that they can't really tell the difference between the FX-7 and some of the higher end consumer models. I would really like to get my hands of some of them to compare, but don't think thats gonna work. Plue there all gonna perform different underwater.

Ah, now you understand one of the reasons I was recommending you not to go with the FX7 ;)

Great camera for the money, but traveling with it.......:shocked2:

Yeah, everyone seems to raving about the new Sony and Canon cams. Will be interesting to see how they perform, especially UW.

I just got my Ikelite HV10 housing. MWB is not easy to use and manual focus ? Forget it. Not Ikelite's fault, these small cams were not designed for easy manual adjustments. Should get it UW by the end of the month. My plan is to use the HV10/Ike combo for casual shooting and the FX7/Gates for serious trips.

Well if this Canon S10, does everything its supposed to, this might be the King of Underwater Video for a little bit. Excellent low light, 24Mbps rate, internal 32GB card with a external changeable SD card, and a whole host of other goodies. And its gonna be even better, since Gates is going to make a housing for it. Its about time someone has given us another Canon housing option.

After this last trip, last week, the bug is still there. And after editing those videos I made, I can't get enough.
