as we know that camera manufacturers including Olympus always introduced a new camera, but, the housing of the previous models normally cannot b used with the new models. This really upsets all of us , as we have spent a big amount of money for u/w casing. Therefore, do we really need to buy a spare camera in case the camera got flooded or broken? i had my dsc-p9 flooded 7 months ago and now i had to buy a new camera (sp-350) and a new housing. which means i have the old housings which cannot b used anymore cause the sony does not produce or sell anymore DSC-P9.

As i have the sp350. do i need to buy another one as a spare or should i just buy sp320 which uses the same housing? Or should i just wait for olympus to introduce another sp 300 series that would fit the current housing.

thx

We have 3 SP-350's on hand.. one not even open yet. Costco here was selling them for $199 so we picked up a couple of extra ones. They are nice to take along on a trip when you don't want to carry a DSLR and it gives you the backup you need.

I am actually purchasing a backup D200 body also for similar reasons but also incase I have a trip like my last one where the camera goes on the fritz.

I didn't go off the deep end like Rich, but at $199, I couldn't resist a back-up and topside camera. I got sick of having spotted and blurred topside shots of whales and sea otters because I didn't want to pull my UW camera out of its housing in the boat. I paid $359 for my first one. The new price is a steal.

Charlie 99, that's a good excuse. Has anybody herad whether oly,pus gonna re-release anymore of sp-300 series that's compactible with our housing?

Don't hold your breath for a re-release.

If you think that this is the system you want to stay with, pick up a backup. I made sure to grab an extra 5050 housing and camera last year as I knew that was a reliable system that I had all the parts for and that I would continue to use. Now I don't have to scramble to keep shooting should bits get damaged - at least for a while!
