Thinking about purchasing Spare Air. Any thoughts or recommendations???

Thanks

I heard from a lot of people on this board that is it no good. If you are down deep, you will only get a couple of breaths out of it. Plus there are pretty bulky also. If I were you I would get a pony bottle, or if you really want redundancy get a set of doubles. Good Luck

Worthless really. Especially for the price. Look at other options.

step up to at least an AL19. 19 cu ft will get you up from 110 fsw with a 1.0 SAC rate, while making your safety stop.

for added safety, get an AL30 or AL40. either way you should really sling it like a stage/deco bottle rather than mounting it on your back. at any rate, make sure that you have an SPG on it so that you know it hasn't leaked out, make sure that you can manipulate the valve, check the SPG, and deploy the regulator underwater (sling it and you're guaranteed to be able to do that, in addition to having it where you can hear, see and feel it leaking easily).

Waste of money. Get your buddy a bigger tank instead.

I have one - I tried it on the deck of the Duane (about 100 ft) got 10 breaths before it was dry. Don't think that would have got me to the surface(at least alive that is). Another good feature is the way airport security rip into your luggage to see what it is!!!

Since I already spent the $$$ I will continue to bring it at least until I can sell it to someone on ebay!

Def a waste of money....

But....it was the SA corp that took on TSA and got some dang common sense in the TSA rules on dive gear...

But I still wouldnt buy one....but thanks SA !!

Years ago, I could have gotten two freebie demo ones from Spare Air and I declined them. Skip it.

Spare Air is a complete and utter waste of money. You're better off developing buddy and gas management skills so that you don't need it.

If you want redundancy, get a set of doubles. If you don't want doubles, get something big enough to allow you to return to the upline and ascend normally while making all required stops. Personally, I'd suggest an AL40, but that's just my preference because 40's are also useful as deco bottles.
