We arrived at Spanish Rocks a bit before 11.
The parking area was 3/4 full, but we got lucky and got the spot closest to the beach. A few divers were exiting and we talked to them. They had dove the 2nd set and had seen a 4 foot nurse shark. We knew the chances were slim on seeing it, but we decided to do the second set. I was diving my ffm since my octo is being serviced. I'm still getting used equalizing with it, and I new my SAC would suffer. However I just had to get wet.
We geared up, and went out. Viz near the shore was awful, so we thought we might not see much. The further we got out the better. A group of fish met us half way out around the first set, and decided to entertain us until we got to the second set. I'll be buying a salt water fish guide soon. We reached the rocks, and by that time the viz was an incredible 20-25 feet. Our escort left, and we began to see what could be described as nature at it's best. About 15 minutes into the second set I came across a crevice 2-3 feet wide, and followed it. All of sudden she appeared. It was an absolutely beautiful nurse shark. We found her. After hovering for about 10 minutes we decided we better not to overstay our welcome, and move on.
The wife and I have dove this sight 24 times now, and today was the parade of fish we had never seen by far.
Well there is nothing like fish stories, but I have photographic proof this time. However I forgot to clean the lense so the pics are a bit off.
I snuck up on this guy, and gave him a fright. Just look at his eyes.
Kids:
Now you are just beautiful. Stop hiding...I didn't to get to close because I didn't want to disturb her so I apologize for the lack of clarity in the pics.
Ok, so who's in next week!!!
