We'll be in Spain in April and seek advice on diving destinations. We will also be climbing, so Mallorca is a consideration, though Costa Blanca in Alicante or El Chorro near Malaga might work. We usually dive in the Caribbean or Hawaii and never in Europe. What should we expect and where else should we consider?

If you are going to be in the Costa Blanca area, the Costa Cálida (Murcia) is very close and you have some of the best diving spots in Spain, such as the marine reserves of Cabo de Palos and Cabo Tiñoso.

Came here to say this.

Islas Hormigas Club de Buceo is a GUE premium dive centre with a great reputation, although I personally haven't dived with them yet. I'll be going in the last weekend in April as they're doing a GUE meet-up weekend.

Thanks, I'll take a look.

And keep in mind that we are using metric system and DIN instead of Yoke (but every decent dive centre will have enough adaptors)
