Hello-

What is the difference between the "regular" version of SP R190 and the "octo" version? It seems to me that the following are true:

1. the octo is yellow versus black
2. the octo is set up to work out of a low pressure port.

What is the likelihood the octo will freeflow in really cold water (versus the regular R190)?

Is there any reason not to use the octo on a pony bottle (i.e. you have the pony, the first stage, and then the octo instead of the first stange and regular second stage)?

The regs are the exact same, but some technicians tune the alternate reg (octo) down to minimize the freeflow chance. The only difference is the color of the cover. Unless you were really picky about the color, there is no difference, aside from the length of the hose 24"vs36"

The R190 has aspirator ports on the top and bottom sides of the inlet body and on the octo version (and on EU freeflow standard compliant R190's) one of them is plugged.

SP specs also call for the octo version to be detuned .5" to 1.0" to reduce the potential for a freeflow. This is, in my opinion, not required as the adjustable flow vane does a good job of stopping a freeflow with the vane in the "min" position.

An LP port is an Lp port for all practical purposes as the IP is the same. Some SP first stages have "high flow" ports with some venturi effects taking place, but you'll never notice the difference at the second stage between the high flow and regular LP ports with an R190.

Well, the authority has spoken, and that settles it. ;)

Thanks, DiaP and DAAquamaster for answering my question.
