I'm in the process to start servicing my own regs I have 4 mk25 s600 a hog zenith I'm in the mind set I trust my work more than I do the "professional" behind the counter. I have turned wrenches my whole life and very mechanical inclined so I think I can handle it , I'm not sure I'm wanting to put it in the category of trying to save money as much of having another hobby and know the work .
My main question is what are the tools I need to get start I've been looking on scubatools and frogkick at schematic

the big one is seeing if you can get the parts kits.... You will likely have to order from Europe as they are rather difficult to acquire here in the US since they've locked them all down. Something to think about while you're exploring this.

For hog it's pretty much just O-ring picks, allen keys/torque wrench, and a pin spanner. Much easier to to get into servicing the diaphragm regulators than some of the pistons.
 
Yea getting the parts is what sucks but they are always on ebay so I guess that the route I'm gonna have to take

Yes, you need a special tool to remove the swivel cap from the main body of the first stage. I bought the tool from Scuba Tools.com. You will also need the plastic/delrin tool to insert o-rings into the body of the first stage and the piston bullet to guide the piston into the first stage. If you have taken an Atomic regulator apart, you won't have any problems with a Scubapro regulator.

Just for peace of mind, I took the parts out and laid them out in order. Had a perfect guide for reassembly, although I did have the repair guide. Having some extra long metric allen bits does help, if you have a DIN valve adapter.

The Mk20/25 does not have a sharp knife edge piston so the bullet tool is not necessary (and it will not work if you are using the assembly tool to install and hold the HP o-ring & bushings in place). But, if you are going to order from scubatools, you might as well get one as it is just a matter of time before you get into older BP 1sts that will require one. One nice thing about older regs is they can be serviced with aftermarket and other brand HP seats. The Mk20/25 seat is a good design but it means Scubapro has you by the OOOOs. The S600 takes a standard rivet style LP seat common to many balanced barrel poppet ends.
 
Thanks for the info I'm building three detroit diesel 14l and one caterpillar 3406e as we speak if anyone knows them so I've done got some stuff picked out so I got a few dollars to buy me some new tools I'm a tool freak btw
