This bet this is a question for DA Aquamaster :)

I was looking at the service guide for my reg and it mentions that the orientation of the VIVA valve can be reversed
The venturi vane is reversible.

Maximum VIVA:
Place the new knob and vane assembly
back into the housing with the crescentshaped
notch facing forward toward the
back of the diaphragm for maximum VIVA.

Minimal VIVA:
Place the new knob and vane assembly
back into the housing with the crescentshaped
notch facing forward toward the
mouthpiece opening for minimal VIVA
(ie: for rental equipment).

I notice that both of mine are in with the crecent facing towards the mouthpiece (minimum VIVA)
Question: what is the effect of having "Maximum VIVA" ? and would I be better off having the valve turned that way?

Thanks
DB

DA will probably have a more comprehensive answer, but having rebuilt a few of the older G250s, R190s, and related regs, I can tell you that I really doubt there will be much difference. On my G250s, the notch is facing the diaphragm and on my R190s it's facing the mouthpiece. I have always thought there's a more pronounced VIVA effect on the R190s, so go figure.

My (original G250s) dont have the notch. My S600 does and it points to the mouth piece.
I would assume that if you set it for maxium VIVA you would get more maximum VIVA when the knob was turned to max and a slight increase from its minimum setting.
So if you are presently getting lower VIVA than you need when it is a MIN then change it.

I have never been a real big fan of maximum VIVA effect, it just gets a little touchier if you drop the reg out of your mouth

I have also never liked a reg that feels like it is inflating me.
