Hi,

I have been bugging Olympus about an UW housing for the SP500, and can't get an answer. Hopefully if enough of us bug them, they will make one. Ikelite is bringing out one for the SP-500 possibly February or March. It will list at $500. and be fully functional.

I had planned to to get the SP-350, but like the features of the SP-500 much better, so I have been holding off, hoping.... Meanwhile, UW camera less for now.

Don

Don, I agree with you about the SP 500 I do now have the 350 but I am planning on returning it this week. the 350 has hardly any battery life on 2 AA. and of course 4 AA is much better and can do 2 dives or maybe even 3.

I do have the 5050 but its a refurbashed (hint) one is is not doing great as my original before it got flooded and destroyed...

Time to make a call to olympus soon as well and bug again about a housing for the 500.

showboat:
I am looking into the SP 500 camera, Does anyone know if Olympus might put together an underwater housing does anyone make one for this camera yet.....

Thanks.

It has several major problems for use underwater. First, battery life is about 60 shots. Second, shutter delay is very long, 0.9 sec. Third, no external flash. I would consider a used 5060 for the same money, much better camera and you can get housings today.

I thought about the SP-500 before I got my 350. I really liked the extra optical zoom. Oly says in their web that they specifically don't make a case for it. It also doesn't do raw format and it doesn't have a hot-shoe. The battery life on the 350 is fine if you get a CRV-3 rechargeable. I've run it through two 18 minute movies in succession without running down the battery. BTW, it takes decent movies, full screen size, only slight resolution lines on 15 fps. I haven't tried the 30 fps yet, but it's limited to 20 second snippets for some reason.
