At this point, I've been experimenting with the SL external flash in the various scene modes using the menu flash variations.

Did you get your flash to sync? Have you connected with NW Grateful Diver, as he has the same flash? I'm getting a little apprehensive about my long awaited Sunpak, as I don't know if the thing has a preflash setting. The posters using them all seem to have older cameras (5050, etc.) which may or may not have preflash. Any help out there?

Sea Yoda responded on the Sunpak thread. It does have a preflash setting. Thanks.

I have a new SP-350 question and a pet peeve.
I am annoyed with the picture data that always shows up over the pix when viewing in view mode? It practically covers the entire picture. I called Olympus without any luck, is there some way to turn this function off? It is annoying to wait for the picture to be clear, especially when viewing many of them.
Has anyone noticed that the LCD screen when viewed from a higher angle than straight on, appears much lighter, similar to some laptops screens? I find that when looking at screen from lower than, to the right and left of the center, it appears darker but easier to see. My point is that I am usually shooting somewhat downward and the image is a bit too light to see clearly. Could it just be my eyes?

I don't know of any way to turn off the info display, but other than the card and battery, it turns itself off in about 3 seconds. Personally, I've found the screen glare to be at its worst straight on. With my 52 year old eyes (farsighted) I have trouble making out a lot underwater other than if the subject is centered. They have a screen magnifier that fits inside the rubber shade, but they don't list our model yet. I've thought about investing the $69. It's supposed to make focus a lot easier, and probably would solve the angle issue if it fits. Either that or some prescription goggles. I tried the plastic self-stick jobs and they were worthless. They fog up in about 30 seconds.

Have not got it to sync with the SL external. Also, the SL external does not have preflash setting. The camera (SL310) has internal flash settings which control the intensity of the external flash. Maybe, as you say, NWGFLdiver may have come up with something if he is using the same flash. Gonna keep trying to figure it out.

Finally got sick of waiting for the Sunpak and diving with my Oly flash in one hand, so I built a D-I-Y loc-line set up for now. I'm diving it tomorrow morning.

I just wanted to chime in on this SP350 thread. I have been reading this thread from the beginning. Thanks to all for all of the information. I bought the 350 several weeks ago with the Olympus housing and a Sealife SL-960D digital flash. I am very pleased with the setup. I have been shooting film for about 10 years and I am very pleased with my first crop of pictures from Cayman 2 weeks ago. They are posted under the scubaboard member galleries under my user name Texman. DALECH is my trademark.

Please check them out and let me know what you think. There are some quirks with the system but overall a great deal for under a $1200. Each of the 3 main pieces was around $300 and then the various lithium batteries and chargers plus carrying cases. Thanks again for all the info.

Looks great - good luck on the dive!

Pictures look great! If you got your sea-life working with it, you might clue in Cudabait and NWG Diver on how.

Way to go, Larry!!

You gonna out some in your gallery?

Also...Texman....Larry is right. How did you set up the sealife external to work with the SP-350. I've been having preflash issues with mine. Is there an internal setting that I might be overlooking. I have an external flash that I've been using for a few years with a SL 310 digital. Thanks in advance. I think NW Grateful has the same issue unless he has resolved it.
