Hello Kelp Divers!

Three friends and I want to organize a trip to dive the kelp forests. Since we are unfamiliar with SoCal diving, we are hoping for some helpful tips. Where to go? San Diego, LA, Catalina Island, other places? We were thinking of camping on Catalina Island but none of us has ever been there. I called the Seaport Village Inn, just to get started, and their rooms are about $100 a night, which is more than we we would like to spend. Also, they said something about $150 per boat dive? I find that very hard to believe. I saw there are camp grounds, too. Any experience with camping and diving on Catalina?

Any tip will be greatly appreciated.

If you want to have a great experience and do it "on the cheap", you should join us for the Wrinkles Dive on November 10th:

I've put a great deal together for us.

$115 includes:

  • Rountrip Transportion to Catalina on the Catalina Express
  • Shuttle on Arrival and Departure
  • Accomodations on Friday and Saturday night
  • Hot Breakfast each morning
  • Champagne on evening of arrival
  • Shuttle for gear to and from the flag pole at Casino Point
  • A place to rinse our gear at the end of the day
  • Complementary baggage storage for the day of departure

That's pretty tough to beat when you consider that the Catalina Express to and from the island is now running $59!

If you speak to anyone at Seaport Village Inn that is unaware of this deal, just ask for Raul. He's the one that put this deal together.

Catalina Island consistenly has the best conditions. Otherwise, you might want to join us at any of our other Wrinkles Dive and BBQ events to meet a bunch of us and discover SoCal beach diving. Here is the complete schedule:

Hope that helps!

Dang Christian! That's a heck of a deal! Let me see if I can get some of my buddies to join up!!

That price is unbelievable! I'll see if I can even drag the ball and chain along. Though, nobody better tell him I said that!! ROTFL!

Another great site for kelp, but more difficult to get to is San Clemente Island. (One of my favorite places to dive.)
