So my buddy and I are going out on the lake this weekend with Capt Mike Tapper of N'Pusuit in East Chicago. Has anybody been on the wrecks around this area lately? Just wanting to know what kind of conditions to expect, temp and vis. I don't know yet which wrecks we will be visiting.

Thanks.

Closest I've gotten is the Chicago area. The conditions have been pretty decent on the lake in general this year. We had 70-100' vis in April up in Kenosha, 40-50' in Milwaukee last month, and 20-30' on the Mack two months ago.

Looking up...

45-48* and 20-50' vis July 26 in Milwaukee
46* and 25' vis on June 28 on the Mack.
43* and 50' vis on June 21 the Wisconsin
36* and 100' vis on April 19 in Kenosha

The Lake's kinda fickle, and vis ranges spot to spot, and day to day. If you dive up in Milwaukee with Jerry Guyer, he'll tell you about diving the Milwaukee Car Ferry in shorts and a T-Shirt.

Hey, we dove with them in the beginning of July about 2 yrs ago. I don't remember water temps but, I remember the Capt'n was a really nice guy. I forgot my fins (I know...it sucked) and he had an extra pair on the boat. One of the guys on the boat taught me that if you tap the sand with your fingertips.....the gobies with swim to you and sit and stare at you. Like you are their leader!

Have a great time!!

I believe it was July of a couple years ago that we were there as well. I remember being a little surprised at the gobies, not just because of the number of them but I thought they were a saltwater fish. But then again, the zebra mussels are primarily found in saltwater as well.

That sounds awesome! Never would have guessed I wanted to go diving to see gobies...

Ever see Men In Black?? When Will Smith opens that locker and all the tiny aliens are in there worshiping the watch. If you sit there long enough..... thats what it feels like with the gobies. :D

All Hail Kay! All Hail Kay! All Hail Kay!

I have dove with Capt. Mike for years, and did 6 dives with him July 19/20. The viz was great (for lake Michigan!), the seas were calm, and a good time was had.
