Hi everyone,

I'm planning on a trip in South East Asia in July where I would go diving but don't really know where to go (mostly because of the rainy season).

I've been to Bali last summer - which was great - so I was thinking about going somewhere else. I was thinking about the Philippines but with the typhoon season I'm not sure it's a good idea. I also started looking at the Sulawesi island but I'm not sure about the safety part (I heard about kidnapping in the area).

Would anyone have an idea for a good scuba diving destination in July in South East Asia (Indonesia / Malaysia / Thailand / Philippines...) ?

Yours.

Which Sulawesi island?

I haven’t researched this since the lockdown but going from memory - July is heading into peak season (Aug) for Indonesia. Being in the southern hemisphere the rainy season is around December. Whereas for the rest of S.E Asia it’s the opposite - worst weather is around Jun-Oct and peak season begins Nov. I saw some recent reports of flooding in Thailand as late as Oct so …

In the Philippines typhoons can occur even in Nov-Dec (imagine being at some shady budget hotel and a typhoon/flash flood hits the area) so the safest time is Jan to June…
