She's got my 4 year old granddaughter beat.

Good for her.

You deserve to be proud!

do you do free diving yourself ?

Congrats but be careful she has full control of equalizing.

i do free diving early before scuba diving starts and at times i get into trouble with descent and ascent rate vs. equalizing during free diving.

even at shallower depths than 10 feet, at times i get into trouble equalizing.

take care.

Interesting point. My son started snorkeling about that age when we lived in Iloilo.
He was 9 years old when I was working on Boracay and I remember teaching a student on the backside near Crocodile Island, (while kneeling in the sand.haha) I was facing the boat and I could see my son and Francy, the son of Victor from Victory Dive Shop, jumping off the boat with the anchor in their hands, dropping like rocks to about 12-15 feet.
I later asked, "Jake, I saw you with both hands on the anchor. How did you equalize"? He said, "we didn't". I think kids have more "rubbery" ear drums.
But I remember diving to 10 feet in the local town pool as a kid before we knew how to equalize and it hurt. Sharp pain. I think I was about 12 though.

That is awesome. I would love for my daughter (13 month old) to be able to do that as well. She loves the pools and has been in there since this summer when she was 10 months old.

Wow! some kids can't even swim at that age. It's great to expose them so early to something they can continue to enjoy and improve upon as they get older.

Congrats. I can't wait to have kids so I can show them the underwater world!

I used to do a lot of breath hold swimming at that age. I remember swimming all the way across the pool and also diving to the bottom of the deep end. I know I must have been 3-4 years old because I was still living in Boulder and we moved when I was 5.
we didn't have masks/snorkels but the comfort in the water was certainly there. My mother had enrolled us in swim classes at an early age and we continued through Jr. hi.
Once we moved, our summer swimming was at the Boulder Reservoir. Icy cold water so more surface swimming, less breath holding.
I think it's just awesome your little girl is this comfortable. I try to encourage my patients to take advantage of city swimming classes because I think it's good for the kids ( exercise, time with parents, water skills) but I think the advise goes in one ear and out the other.
It's so hard to get the average parent to do anything involving exercise or time with their children these days. They prefer setting them in front of the TV or computer for entertainment and babysitting. Really a shame.

Get a child's mouth piece for your reg. and watch how fast and easily she takes to it......You won't be able to get her out of the pool and she'll want you to move closer to the ocean :) !!!!.....Way to go Dad !!!!!

Sometimes its a matter of finding thd appropriate equipment!
