Definitely a story deserving of praise.

When I heard it on the news, I was reminded of a kayak expedition that a group of my fellow teachers and some of our students took covering the entire inner coast of the Baja, California peninsula. The expedition leader, Mike Acebo, suffered a burst appendix near the end of the trip and paddled the last two weeks I believe with the appendix in that condition. Fortunately it became encysted and he survived until he reached medical help.

TC, what great story. Thanks for posting a link. Our men and women in uniform deserve our praise every day, it is nice when the get it.

Lets see, the Regan gets the call when she is 550 miles away, she closes to within 50 miles for the pick up within 24 hours.

She would sortie the helo about 100-150 miles out, give the helo one hour to the cruse ship and another hour to an hour and a half to position the liner, take station and make the two picks.

Unless the cruse liner turned towards her, I make that a speed run of at least 21 knots for 24 hours. Want to bet that the cruse ship did not turn and that the Battle group was at 25 -30+ knots for 12-15 hours?

The Regan has no problem as she is burning atoms, the escorts must have burned through many tons of oil.

Bravo Zulu to the USS Ronald Regan Battle Group and the Admiral who stuck his neck out for a young girl.

This was a great story... the kind that renews your faith in the human race. Thanks for sharing it.. I enjoyed following it on the news, and enjoyed reading it again today. :)

Those who see fit to continually put down the US armed forces and not support them should have this posted on every telephone pole near their homes. We could start with a few of them in Hillary's neighborhood. Fitting that the ship that came to her aid was the Ronald Reagan. He was there when we needed him (and do again) now his namesake is going the extra mile for those in need. My son is Air Force, but hey. GO NAVY!

Far more times than not the Navy gets it right.

The Regan would not even be breathing hard at that speed.
I would say it was a darn good call and makes an excellent training excersize for the group on top of doing a really good thing.

When thing get bad you respond the way you have trained. There is nothing like cranking it up and going to save a life to push the edge and both train skills and to mold a crew.

Great Job!
