(i'm curious... why did you post this trivia in the Women's Views section?)

by mistake......it should be moved to the general section please

BTW - where did you find this info?

it'd be there now

more trivia:

name the first diver to penetrate a wreck using Scuba.

the year for extra credit?

(i found the info doing research for exactly how the "dive buddy" concept
came to be accepted as the standard in the industry)

I met a guy at a party over the holidays who said he had NAUI cert #16. He claimed NAUI had the first certs.

MaxBottomtime:
Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation set up the L.A County scuba training agency in 1954. It is the oldest, and still going strong today.

lol, the question was "the first national organization."

that'd be the YMCA

by the way, Al Tillman and Bev Morgan set up the LA County training
program, and it was copied by pretty much everybody, including the YMCA and NAUI

also, I didn't realize LA County still certifies divers today. are its certificates
accepted industry-wide?

Yes, LA County was first, but like Andy said, YMCA was the first nationwide agency. LA County still issues certifications. They are widely recognized. I'd rather see a LA County entry cert than a Master Diver cert from some other organizations, it's an excellent program.

cool
