I have somehow found myself with a free week the last week of June to do a solo dive trip. I'm based in Malawi (in Africa), but will be in Mauritius for a week in June doing some diving and general holidaying with the family and then have a free week to myself. My wife does not dive, so our usual vacations consist of me doing half a dozen dives over a week, but now I've got some time to just dive. I have some flexibility on flight costs, but don't want to break the bank on diving/hotel/liveaboard costs.
A couple of options I'm considering:
Mozambique - it's in the neighborhood, I think June is a good time to go, and there's lots of unique stuff to see. I guess I would go to Pemba and just be based there, but willing to look at other stuff.
Egypt liveaboard - had not previously considered a liveaboard, but prices look extremely reasonable. Don't know about the time of year and am a bit hesitant to be crammed into a cabin with a stranger for a week. And there's the safety stuff.
Maldives - don't know about conditions this time of year. Liveaboards seem very expensive and feels like a weird place to go by yourself.
Seychelles - same as Maldives. don't know conditions in late June and weird being solo in a "romantic" destination.
Type of diving I like:
I've been diving for the last 10 years or so. Since moving to Malawi, I've been spoiled by our giant tropical lake where it's freshwater, no-current diving in 85 degree water (but not a ton to see besides very pretty cichlids and less pretty catfish). Previously, I did a lot of diving in the Philippines. I recently dived in Cape Town and it was way too cold for me. I like warm water diving. I also like to take pictures, but I'm not a crazy, dedicated photographer. Mostly, I like underwater tourism and seeing new and unique things.
Would welcome any suggestions on where to go for my solo week. My wife is being super cool about it and I want to take full advantage.
