Yee - I'm going Sharm this Saturday and on Sunday is my 35th birthday! And I'm goin solo!!! Don't know is it good or bad - never been goin anywhere solo!
I saw some info about diving - should not worry about buddy then, but what about some peoples places to go - what are recomendation - where the life is, which are the best places to make friends...ye...and girls, girls!!!!!?

Listen Normunds

i know that you want to go to sharm but there is a good offer in dahab from red searelax which i am interested in going in february there .they are offering free accomodation if you dive with them .It seems to be a good one and as far as i know dahab is cheap and its only 90 kilometres away from sharm.i think is good they even have a nice web which you can check it www.red-sea-relax.com .Hope youll get this

To me bluediver and dahabrelax sound suspiciously as if they are working for the same place... A DI, based in South Sinai (Sharm and Dahab) who needs advice from a hotel manager in Dahab about local scams...and thinks it's a cheap place...
I have seen the place they are talking about and it looks o.k. from the outside (brand new and empty...), however, I'd be wary of places that feel they need to resort to such practises as advertising in disguise (or even openly - read the terms and conditions...) on boards like this.

Anyway, back to the topic, since you want to go to Sharm and not Dahab (I assume you have booked a package), there are plenty of bars and nightclubs there (mainly in Na'ama Bay). The only place I have been to myself I THINK was called the Camel bar and was quite a lively place. Don't worry, you'll have company on your birthday :)

Thanks for your honest reply and it seems to be you are very cleaver!!

Any way I promise you very soon ( in sha alha) we will be very busy while you are hanging on the Bridge...

See you soon

A diver

Thanks - ye - I have booked my package - will be staying in Hilton Fayrouz and diving with Sinai Dive club!!!
Thank you for your comments - only three days to wait and I'm in the water!!!
I heard that there is special vis needed to be able to go to Ras Muhamed or smtng like this called place - any experience?

And what exactly do you mean by I will be hanging on the bridge???

Normunds, to go to Ras Mohammed (which you definetely should not miss), the Thistlegorm Wreck or the Strait of Tiran sites (basically anything except for the local dives in Sharm) you need the full Egyptian visa (as opposed to the free Sinai only permit). You can easily get the visa at Sharm airport (if it isn't included in your package anyway) for US$ 15 or equivalent in EUR or GBP. All you need to do is to go to a bank counter before going through immigration, buy 2 little visa stamps and then get into line at immigration.

I wouldn't avoid the local dive sites as they're not that bad. They can get a little overcrowded but I don't know many divers that don't come back from the Gardens with a smile on their face. My own personal favourite being Near Gardens.

Due to problems with Emperor Divers I also had 2 days of enforced snorkelling in Na'ama Bay but managed to spot an octopus, multiple blue spotted rays and a baby eagle ray on the two house reefs of the Red Sea College and Sinai Divers.

Admittedly I would love to have done the other dives but I'll have to go back another time for them. From my dive buddy's experience I'd also recommend Jackson Reef as a damn good fish infested dive site. I saw the video that was shot and it's definitely on my list of sites to visit.
