I dove solo for the first time recently. I have always been apprehensive about it, but I had a rented tank I wasn't going to bring back full. It was a different experience not having to keep track of another diver in the limited vis of an inland Michigan lake in July. With that said, there isn't much you can do to hurt yourself on a shallow dive in a lake. I definitely wouldn't go alone on a deep dive in cold water, that's when things can go wrong.
