Around here, I doubt if there's anyone associated with diving that doesn't know something about me ...

... this is not necessarily a good thing ... :depressed:

Hopefully you're usually known in a good context. :D

Darn!!!
sold short again. :shakehead: Contraindicated by the number of quarry loving posts:mooner: in the "mid atlantic bottom feeders forum" Delaware and Maryland has a lot of solo diving accepted. My last dives solo 45 minutes at 130fsw on the marine electric. Good times
Eric

Yes, solo diving is very acceptable in the NE. Including NY and NJ. If and only if you earn it. It is a rite of passage on a boat. First you have to lose the bull**** and prove yourself. I can solo within my range just by letting the captain know, no drama and no macho, nobody cares -just my choice. I wouldn't dare ask solo for a pinnacle dive, that would be totally irresponsible.

My last dives were solo dives on the Atlantic while I sorted out new gear issues. Two dives at 70' for 30 min. -priceless to me. Treat it as a courtesy.

Solo is not regional. Nor is it a big deal if done correctly.

...//....on the marine electric. ...//....

Does this help?

Advanced Open Water Certification required with at least 40 logged dives, prior experience diving in open ocean, cold water and low visibility is strongly suggested for diving the Marine Electric.
This charter consist of one dive on the Marine Electric and a Zone 3 dive on the way back.
Anybody who arrives at the boat the morning of a trip without the proper certification will not be permitted to dive and will not be offered a refund.
All Marine Electric Charters leave the dock at 7:00AM, you should be at the dock with your gear ready and paperwork in hand at 6:30AM.

-Second only to the school bus and the silver comet. :rofl3:

I certainly hope the above post was toungue in cheek? Cuz if you think that is the taxi I ride I am truly offended.:rofl3:

Thanks for having an open mind.

You saw the Marine Electric solo. My total respect. Even having done that, not you nor I could waltz into the office and get permission to dive the silver comet solo. Google Image Result for http://www.harvestwoodworks.com/scuba/images/dutch3.jpg Such is life, brother diver. :(

disclaimer: the image is just something I pulled from the internet, no connection.

FWIW Dutch does allow solo divers with a solo cert and a gps you have to get from the office...

ROFLMAO!!!!!:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:
Silver comet and the school bus. I tottally missed that.
I thought you were talking about that boat operation, not the challenging wreck navigation, and bus penetrations at Dutch. For the record there is a better taxi than the one mentioned to ride in oc if you want to do 2 dives on the marine electric, and save the shallow stuff for another day. We refer to her as "the steel mountain".

I don't have a lot of experience with charters but the experience I've had here in NE, in FL and NC has been once they know you certs mean little. I usually only have to show my OW card issued in 1972 with >1400 dives and that's it. If that's not enough one dive will do it. In NC the last dive I had equipment issues that caused me to get in the water late, so late it was certain I would be finishing my dive solo not a word was said.

"gps" as in "body finder"

The solo cert can't be "self-reliant diver" or anything other than "solo", this requirement limits the agencies to SDI and maybe one other. I'm signed up with Doppler to get my "Dutch approved" solo cert next month. So finally, I will be able to practice caving skills without boring my buddy to death.

@ waterpirate,
I never thought about my post the way you read it. That would be so ignorant that it would actually be funny.:shocked2: I need to re-read a tad better before I post.:D
