Dutch springs wont let you dive w/o a buddy unless you have a solo diving cert. Curious what exactly that is as I only thought SDI has that.. Either way I'm wont be going solo, just curious how everything works.

SDI does have this certification. The main point that the certification teaches you is how to be self-sufficient as a diver.

I'm guessing because their OW and Adv Adventure/AOW in general doesn't do this? Too bad, it should have.

Only SDI has a Solo Diver card, and as nobody in my entire *state* shows up in their files as teaching it, I can't comment. The *only* thing I can say about the SDI Solo Diver class is that not one shop I've emailed about has even bothered to reply to me.

Considering it's a Solo Diver course, might they offer it in a self-study format? :D

This is like saying your Introduction to Business course was inadequate because you didn't come out as a CPA? You had a section in accounting, but the class wasn't dedicated to that topic. The OW and AOW classes cover self-reliance throughout the courses, however they are not completely dedicated to that topic.

Here is the stated objection for the course from the SDI Manual:

"The objection of this course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for diving solo. Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may engage in solo diving activities".

This is just a course dedicated to the topic of Solo Diving.

Hope this helps clear up any confusion about this course.:)

lol, somehow I think I know what that course is all about......lol.

Like I said, too bad that folks feel the need to take that course, since it shows to that point in their training they hadn't had the opportunity to learn " how to be self-sufficient as a diver." (your words). This is clearly a shame, since to be a good buddy, you first need to have command of yourself. I would have thought the idea in OW and AOW to build not only individual, but team skills, amking this class extremely redundant at best, and give a seriously bad idea of how diving could be done, at worst.

This says nothing about business courses or being a CPA.............but I'll bet you'll try another irrelevant angle soon enough.

Who crapped in your rinse bucket? The op asked specifically about solo diving cert, so if you have experience with this please enlighten us. Since you obviously have no knowledge about what might be included in solo training, maybe you should stick to answering questions you at least have a faint clue about. You are actually very funny in an ignorant way, as the training you call redundant is in a large part about the need for redundancy.

Where's that popcorn smiley when you need it?

Here it is...

SDI is the only agency that currently offers the Solo Diver Cert and that is exactly what Dutchis looking for. In addition they require you to rent one of their tracking systems in case they have to locate you.
