I'm finally getting into a drysuit. Going with the Bare ATR HD and need some good undies for it. Local diving is about 62° - 64°
with some up coming Catalina diving. A recent report from another diver said the temps varied between 62° at surface to 57° at depth in the San Clemente area.

Which undies to you guys suggest? I'm thinking the 200g but don't have any experience in this area. Heck can I get by with a sweat shirt and pants? I don't think the cotton stuff is good for diving, right?

Another question (if your up to it): How small do both the Bare ATR HD and the undies pack?

Now I need some Turtles too........ will it ever end?

Thanks,

I wear the 300 wt.

Lake diving in 70 degree (surface temp) water, they weren't uncomfortable and they were still warm in the more normal 54 degrees I see ocean diving.

Thanks,

I also dive a Bare ATR HD and use the 300gm version of the softwear undergarment. Most of my diving takes place around the monterey area with an average of 55deg water. It works great till the temp drops to around 50 deg and below. Then i i really start to feel the cold.....brrr. Eventually im gonna buy me a vest to wear under it for an added layer of insualtion on those colder dives. But other than that it works great.

Also this looks like a great deal on a set of turtles if your interrested http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3615845697&category=16054&rd=1

Thanks, I'm really torn between the 200g and the 300g. Anymore opinions from you drysuit divers???

That is a good price on the fins!! With the Imperial designation it didn't come out in my search. Actually I just closed on a new pair that went yesterday for $53. Not bad at all, since retail is $75

Hi,

I also use a Bare ATR HD. I use the Bare CT200 underwear, which keeps me nice and warm. I mostly dive in Dutch waters, and the 57F you mention is pretty typical here for spring time water. I am never cold in my CT200. Now that water temp has gone up to 65F, I am actually too warm and am looking for a thinner undersuit.
I have been at 37F (water temp) without getting cold.
However, whether you'll get cold depends on whether you use your suit for trimming or you BC. At 60F I always get cold after half an hour when using my BC to trim (and only inflate my suit to conpensate for squeeze). However, when I use my suit itself for trimming (as most courses will teach you--but there quite a debate about that) I never get cold at these temps.
So, if you use your suit for trimming, 200g is fine for most people and thicker suits may even cause hyperthermia. If you use your BC for trimming, go for thicker underwear.
I hope this helps.

I used to dive with a Bare CT-200 undergarment. It was great except for one thing, there was absolutely no flexibilty in the arms and shoulders making it almost impossible to reach your valves when diving double tanks. Just something to think about if you ever want to dive doubles in the future.

I agree. Good thing I am switching to Weezle undies. They are also much better at dealing with persperation, both in and out of the water, they can be machine washed as often as I like (no way you can do that with thinsulate without ruining its isolation properties) and it can be folded to a much smaller package (press your thinsulate together and this also ruins it).

---> Another question (if your up to it): How small do both the Bare ATR HD and the undies pack?

See my remark above, it depends on the kind of undies. Thinsulate: packs big. Weezle (no idea what it is made of): packs really small.
ATR HD: packs pretty small (way smaller than any neoprene drysuit) if you roll it right (and do it carefully).

Thanks for your responses.

I ordered a 200g one piece SoftWear suit from Janice this morning. She also told me about a vest that is available now that is not on her website for $55. I went for that as well. With all the good things said about her products I can't wait until I can dive the suit.

I went with the 200g versus the 300g because (my logic) I can always add some other underwear, but its hard to take something away from a thick one piece suit if your to hot.
