When we went in November, I didn't even wear a wetsuit the entire week. Water temps in the low 80's. I suspect December would still be reasonably warm as well. A 3mm should be fine.
Any idea what it will be like in Socorro in mid-May? I propose to use my 5mm full, but will have a 3mm suit as well in my bag for use in Bonaire later in the trip.

i checked the RDM website and they list the average water temp in May at 80. I can't imagine a 3mm not being enough but at 80, I wouldn't even wear a wetsuit. I don't get cold easily though.
 
May last year on RDM it was 73-78 F.

I dived with 5mm + hood + sometimes undershirt. Was cool without the hood.

Most people went for 5mm. I don't recall anyone diving with less.
