Me and my wife are in a very fortunate position to choose jobs in pretty much any locale worldwide so we can work and play on the same trip.

We just started Diving and last week was Hawaii, we LOVED IT!! Now we are defiantely planning a trip back for April but would love to get some more ideas for awesome Dive spots and to hear from others on how Hawaii/Maui's Diving ranks in comparison to that of places like Cozumel, Bonaire, Bahamas etc...those are the other places we are leaning towards heading next.

Ideas? Feedback? Discuss..

:14: I don't know Hawaii, but I can recommend the Bahamas. Cozumel is also awesome, although for a new diver you should be a bit more cautious--if my opinion--because of some potentially swift drift dives and walls. While I've never been, the Great Barrier Reef of Australia is world known.

Now a question for you...how can I GET A JOB LIKE YOURS??????

Good luck
Kevin

What type of diving do you want to do? Don't waste someone time recommending a spot that you won't like the features of.

Thanks guys!

We would love to get into wreck Diving eventually but want to have at least a couple dozen dives under our belts. We are on Dive #10 right now so we are taking it easy.

For the most part we just like relaxing dives with lots of Reef, Turtles etc...anything cool we are up for.

Try going west to the Western Pacific. Truk is great for wreck diving over 300 wreck to choose from. Yap for mantas. Palau for big stuff lots of sharks. Rota for out of the way diving. Saipan has lots of big green turtles. Pohnpei for another place that is out of the way and dive boats that are not full.

PM me for more info.

Dale
Still on a little rock in the Pacific.

For beginners ease of the shore diving I would recommend Curacao. We did 22 dives in 11 days all from shore. We have all our equipment and the final cost for 2 divers for 44 dives was under $360.00. Water was spectacular, no currents to speak of, healthy reefs. Going back in '07

Chedder... what made you choose Curacao over Bonaire, next door? Just curious -- we're planning a possible ABC dive trip (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao), and are trying to decide if we want to spend time island hopping, or just hang in one place...

Thanks...

Not Chedder but here is my opinion. If you want to do the tourist thing- shop/tour/dance/party/gamble and dive some then Aruba or Curacao would likely be a better choices. They are both bigger, have more topside activities and are easier to get to than Boniare. If your only wanting to do 1 or 2 dives a day and a lot of topside activities Aruba might be the best choice. If it's more 50/50, Curacao. On the other hand if you want to eat/sleep/dive dive dive then go directly to Bonaire. It's a lot smaller than either Aruba or Curacao and the entire island is pretty much geared up to dive. We dove Curacao last year after diving Bonaire for 5 straight years. Everyone enjoyed Curacao but there was no question we prefered Bonaire.

I love Hawaii/Oahu for the underwater formations/lava tubes and the unique sea life. I've seen some huge turtles, squid, good size sharks. Haven't been with the mantas yet.

However, if you want some serious bottom time with more coral than you can imagine, the Bahamas. Shallow water got me 90+ minutes on one tank (AL80) on several dives. I had a daily escort by a barracuda (he had a unique spot on one side so I knew it was always the same one), saw juvenile sunfish about 2-3' tip-to-tip, 100+ lb grouper, sharks, lobster, eels.

The US Virgin islands are also great.

I agree with Herman, I've been taking groups to Bonaire for the last 4 years and by far if you want to dive it does not get any easier. I like it much better than Curacao but I like to get 5-7 dives a day in. I have also done Maui, Roatan, Belize, Cozumel, Cancoon and all over the Bahamas. If you want to dive in GREAT waters and have easy diving I would highly recommend Bonaire. PM me if you do decide Bonaire. Ican give you some details.
