Thought I'd put in a few words for scuba diving in Norway. I live here, and I love diving here! Preferably the northern west coast, from Stavanger and even all the way to the russian border is great!
My favourite spot is the island Hitra, just outside the Trondheimsfiord. I've been there more times than I can count, and there's just so much to explore I could never get bored.
First of all this is nature scuba diving, not so much old rusty boats. But they are there too. There are narrow sounds where you can drift with the current and look at the fabolous marine life. Speeds from 2 to 20 knots, whatever you prefer!
We usually combine scuba diving with fish hunting, picking crabs and mussels. The seafood is plentyful and the divers are so very few. Plenty for all!
The best time to visit is probably september/october, when the water can be very clear and water temps still comfortable at around 12 degrees celsius. Drysuit is absolutely preferable. We're a bunch (16 divers) going up there for a week now in the end of february. We expect air temps around -2 to +5 degrees celsius (30-40F) and water temps around 5-6 degrees celsius. -And we expect crystal clear water!
We rent cabins and boats but we bring our own compressors. You can rent very comfortable cabins and sturdy boats many places.
Here are 52 pics, and some text from our last trip in october:

There are even two great videos from the places we were diving.
If you are interested in scuba diving in Norway, feel free to contact us for info. We have no commercial interests, but we love scuba diving in Norway!
