What guide book(s) would you all recommend to a new diver who wants to know about diving in So. Cal.? Are there any "must haves" or "must avoids"?

California's Best beach Dives by Dale Sheckler is the only one I own. The others re: the islands seem pretty general to me

I own two books, but use California's Best beach Dives by Dale Sheckler. http://www.saintbrendan.com Just because I think it does a better job and is not as general as some others.

As they say above, Sheckler's book.

Plus, you will want Paul Humann's "Costal Fish Identification, California to Alaska."

Add to that, David Behren's "Pacific Coast Nudibranchs".

I think Dive n' Surf in Redondo Beach carries copies if you want to look at them before you buy.

Ditto on Paul Humann's "Costal Fish Identification, California to Alaska."

While your at the store, David Wrobel and Claudia Mills "Pacific Coast Pelagic Invertebrates, A Guide to the Common Gelatinous Animals" is good to have.
