Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on places near the LM ( vancouver ) BC.
That are good for snorkeling for crab?
thanks

Hey Bud there are a few places that are really good:
1) Whiskey Cove --- Indian Arm just north of Belcarra Park
2) Belcarra park --- In Port Moody
3) Grey Rocks --- go over the 2nd narrows bridge onto Dollarton Highway until you reach a road called Strathcona turn right and keep going down the hill until you come to a grass field on your right and a park on the left side of the road.
4) Cates Park --- same way to strathcona but its way before theres road signs saying Cates Park

These are the usuall places I go.

Really appreciate the info.
I just have to get out there and do it now.
thanks

I second Whiskey Cove and Belacarra Park, but there's a mess of dungeness crab almost anywhere in Indian Arm.

went crabbing the other week and did not get one legal size dungenous. Lots of large red rock and plenty of decent sized dungenous but nothing legal. My buddy and I dove both Cates and Strathcona. Not sure if it was just that time of the year and things are fished out or what.

We do though have live competition at Cates as there is an large octo there.

On a semi-related note...

Has anybody seen a Tanner crab (AKA Snow crab) lately? Last year they were all over the place at Porteau but I haven't seen a single one for 6 months. Just wondering if they are a seasonal species or if they all just disappeared or ???.

I got a pic of this guy as I was doing my AOW on Sunday at Porteau Cove.
