Our friend's friend was run over by a dive boat. He is seriously injured and in the hospital in Curacao. I have yet to read about this incident. Our friends were on site and state the boat was in light blue water away from where the boats should be. I bring this up because I notice when at my friend's place in Bonaire (Sabadeco on the water) we often see rental boats in this out of bounds area. Or is it NOT out of bounds? Can anyone enlighten me on the rules please? What happened this past week was devastating. His wife and kids witness the accident much to their horror on what was supposed to be a lovely holiday. Prayers for the victim.

Annie..There was a short thread on this unfortunate incident on BT last week. No reason to doubt the extreme physical & psychological trauma inflicted on the victim and those who witnessed & were involved with it. I had a local dive master over for drinks last night & briefly discussed.

First, this was a dive boat captain involved in the incident.
Second (as in all negligence cases) there are 2 versions. One is that it took place in the blue water and the other was that it took place in the shallow water where the dive boats (or any boats > 12 feet) are prohibited from cruising.

Anyone who rents a boat at the rental outlets should keep it in the dark blue water. A dive boat captain most definitely should not be cruising in the light blue shallow waters.
