we're coming into Cozumel on may 13th and want to take the ferry over to playa del carmen and find a snorkel tour. the catch is that we need something in the afternoon. we don't get to cozumel until 1pm. does anyone know of any companies that do afternoon snorkel trips? we would love to find something that took us to a cenote. we just need to be back to cozumel by 9pm.

thanks.

All the snorkel tours that I know of are in the morning and pretty much require a reservation made a day in advance. If you get to Coz at 1, the quickest you could be in PDC is 3 and all the dive shops are finishing up their afternoon dives around that time. The good snorkeling cenotes are another 30 minutes to a hour south of PDC. You might just want to enjoy 5th ave. in PDC and setup a snorkel tour for the next morning.

The north end of Akumal Bay does have some pretty good snorkeling from shore. The turtles like to hang out on the sandy bottom. There are some coral mounds and if you are lucky, there is a bait ball of silver sides in the bay. Personally, I would wear a life vest for greater visibility. There can be some boat traffic at that end of the bay. A taxi will run you about $35 each way (roughly the cost of a snorkel tour for two) and you can be back to the ferry pier in PDC by around 7. Not a guided tour, but very doable on your own.

If you are looking at doing it on your own, Dos Ojos is only 10 minutes further south and is one of the best cenote snorkels in the Yucatan. Here is a link that will show you Dos Ojos, Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park Yucatan Mexico Riviera Maya. Just to give you an idea of what is there. Personally, I think that the price of the snorkel tour is way too high, but there are other options. PM me for details if that interests you.

BTW, we are staying in Akumal from the 9th to the 12th and PDC the 13th and 14th. Love the scene there for the last eight years.

We are going to be in Akumal with our family June 23-30. Adventurous teens..... trying to decide whether to do the Hidden Worlds Experience or just snorkel Dos Ojos on our own. We are planning to dive a few of the days while we are there, but had intended to do our diving in the ocean and snorkel the cenotes, unless we will be missing out. What's your opinion? It sounds like you are very familiar with things there. We would love any other information or insights, we are staying in Playa Blanca Villas on HMB.
Thanks so much!
