It is amazing how much the ocean can change in 24 hours. Had to cancel U853 plans for this weekend due to the weather so we decided to salvage the weekend with a dive at Saturday Night Ledge.
We were talking about Spiny Dogfish while suiting up and by God we spotted 4 during this dive. Seas were good but we had 6' rounded swells rolling through every now and then. Eyes on the horizon while sweating our as*es off in the heat. We get down to depth and it was 46 degrees. We maxed out at 111' breathing 29% today. As soon as we got to depth we spotted the first Spiny. We circumnavigated the mooring area for about 20 minutes then began our ascent. As we were ascending we spotted three more Spiny's. One was a good size. They came up from below to check us out then descended back down. First time for me on this site this season. The reef area above the mooring looked quite different from my last visit last year. It did not look as pristine and appeared sort of dirty. Any ideas or is this a natural cycle I have not noticed before?
Anyway I was psyched to get a dive in between the storms.
