And the reply to yours would be a kick in the *****...a more polite response would be more appropriate after all the smoker isn't doing to be an afront to you.:shakehead:

The situation she described was that of a smoker who moved whilst she moved about. The confrontational sounding statement was humor...

And unless you are being humorous aggression is never the answer to a problem, escalating what may be unintentional rude behavior (moving near someone who is moving away from you to avoid your smoke) to physical confrontation is merely foolish

^I agree. Infact, many laws don't make much sense. After reading about drugs in my psychology book....according to which, alcohol is a more dangerous drug than cannabis.

Research the political and societal aspect beginning with the Dangerous Drug Act of 1933, pay particular attention to the segment of society using cannabis and heroin and then draw your own conclusions...

1. Should diving be encouraged for everybody? No. Diving should only be encouraged for people who can keep themselves safe while diving. My younger brothers are not extremely mature, I would not trust them in spring environments where you can enter caves. I will not encourage diving for them.

2. Why are we suprprised at how many divers smoke? Personally, I'm surprised for several reasons.
-smoking is known to be bad for your health. Yes, I'm aware that soda is also bad, but soda doesn't give you lung cancer. I've had several family members die from illnesses that were likely caused by their smoking for many years, it's very hard for me to condone someone's smoking.
-in my mind, divers should be more physically fit and should care more about their bodies than non divers. Diving can be a sport that requires, eh, work? I would expect people that care about the environement and their bodies to dive moreso than people that do not.
-diving is supposed to be peaceful, nicotine is a drug that people cannot function without once they are addicted to it, it takes a good bit of work to wean yourself of it. If I were a smoker and wanted to quit, I would probably begin doing something that would put me at peace and allow me to relax, like diving.

3. I have never noticed a problem with diesel or gas fumes on a boat. Usually, I am further from the ehxaust systems than from a smoker.

What really rubs my rhubarb are smokers that throw the butt overboard.

And do I want everyone to conform to my beliefs? No! That'd be a miserable world. But what is wrong with wishing that people would stop harming their bodies by smoking, drinking tonnes of soda or never exercising? I am equally against smoking and obesity, but obese people don't usualy envelope me in their fat the way smokers envolope me with their smoke.

I wonder how many people hwo are aginst smoking cigars or cigaretts smoke pot? And if they that do smoke pot realize that they are getting much more nicotine then cigars.

Most of us realize that smoking is bad for one's health no matter what is being smoked.

Personally, I have too much to lose to even THINK about smoking pot. (My health, my career, etc)

As I had said in my post, in "combination with the diesel fumes and seas". I just think that if you choose to smoke then it is only fair to be polite and ask when you are surrounded by non-smokers. Dont you think its funny that more and more restaurants don't allow smoking, why is this???

Because more and more local communities are passing ordinances outlawing smoking in such establishments.

I'll say one reason why I dont want to see a smoker near me in a dive boat. A lighted cigarette and trilam material dont mix.

wearing a drysuit costing more than a 1000$, I dont wanna see some careless smoker making a hole through my precious DUI suit or my BC bladder or my wing. I've been burned on the arms several times in confined areas by smokers who have no control over their hands, I dont want them near me on a dive boat.

I like a good cigar myself but I smoke it where I wont bother anyone.

So stay away from em.

So, you feel it is ok to blow your smoke in my direction? SWEET!

If the smoker is on the back of the boat, let him puff away. I'm a non-smoker and don't want to be around it, but smokers really have very few rights any more. Any sort of remarks makes them cranky and sensitive.
