Best of luck Kim. I did it cold turkey after 20 years of 2 packs a day (4 packs when I worked retail). It took a solid 6 months before I quit reaching for my pocket while driving. I haven't smoked since January 2000 and I don't miss it. At the same time, I'm not a PITA to those around me who choose to smoke, other than I won't let them smoke in my home or my truck.

If you need assistance from the patch or gum, do it. The nicotine is not good for you, but it's better than what it's replacing, and it will help you. The cost is about the same as smoking.
Actually it's not really withdrawal symptoms that I seem to have a problem with. I can quit quite easily for 5 or 6 days without feeling too stressed. My problem is more one of associations. I'm so used to doing certain things with a fag in my mouth that it feels unbelievably strange to do them without. That and the fact that I'll put on a huge amount of weight in a very short time!! I do agree with Rick's previous post though - your mind is a devil and a liar - and it takes a lot to keep it nailed down tight.

That's what it was for me as well.
Altoids (very strong candy/breath mints) helped me through it.

Dude, Yoda said this line to Luke Skywalker in the swamp after he 'tried' to lift his starfighter out of the muck using the Force.

Don't know who Frank Oz is, but he can't be stealin' no lines from the Jedi Master!
