Hi peoples,

I'm looking for a small, single tank wing to go on my transpac. Something easy to travel with, and dive locally on those nice, easy, warm dives :D Looking at the Dive Rite travel wing, but not so sure on the shape of it. Anyone had any experiences with them, or have any other reccommendations?

Cheers,
Ryan.

The Travel wing is great. It's donut shape stops any air trapping. For a single tank it's perfect. I've been diving mine for 5 years now.

Kim - do you use a single tank adapter with the travel wing? Im thinking of getting one for my girlfriend but im turned off by the fact that it cannot be use with a single tank adapter of the shelf..

I use it with the Transpac harness.....not a plate. It's really stable like it is so I never really saw the need to switch to a plate. A plate would also make travelling more problematic - I already have weight issues carrying gear, camera, lights and computer! :D I only ever get 20Kgs from Japan, and they are very strict!

I saw a DSS 17# wing today - very small ... nice design. Dunno if it's compatible with the transpac however :(

Ah..... i'm still waiting for the pictures of that to be released.:shakehead

I've been using the DR travel wing for a few years too.

What I don't like
It's rated at 30 lbs which for warm water is probably twice as big as necessary. With a tank on, it is at least a few lbs less. I also wish the hose was shorter. It dangles down to mid-waist on me, and I'm 6'. If I were to buy it all over again I'd get the version without the pull string; I'd get the elbow instead. Probably a special order.

What I like
about it though is the square shape. My suspicion is that the square shape keeps you comfy on the surface when you are bobbing waiting for the boat on a drift dive. I woud think a skinny shape would be less stable on the surface (I'm hypothesizing).

Happy shopping whichever you decide.

The DR Travel works great with the Transpac. I have one myself.
The only negative I can think of is that it will only work with the transpac.....without modification.

On the transpac, the tank straps hold the wing on very well, but since the Travel Wing does not have grommets, it can't be used on other harnesses/plates unless you add the grommets yourself.

sell your transpac and get yourself a SS backplate then get a oxycheq 30# wing. you wont regret it, i sure didnt!
