The shore on LCM & the Brac is not mainly ironshore - it is part ironshore part beach. The shore entries at Jacksons & Bloody Bay on LCM are all beach & hard pan for which you need booties but they are not ironshore. There is some fringing reef to negotiate by walking around for the sites south of Mixing Bowl. One slip & you are extremely unlikely to be in for stitches or a medivac.
The sites are all buoyed & easy to find. Drive east on the south coast road past Southern Cross, turn left on the cross island road & when you reach the north coast, continue straight down the sand track to the beach. You will be right opposite Cumber's Caves which you will see is nowhere near 100 yards away. There are usually no swells. You can see all the markers up the beach to the east ending at Cascades. To access the sites to the west down to Sam's lodge drive west along the north coast road & you will find a number of tracks down through the bush to the beach. (If the north is blown out, you can also shore dive Preston Bay - buoyed sites accessed by a track at the edge of the runway - these are ironshore entries so you need to be confident of your ability entering here. Also the wall sites & the wreck (Soto Trader) directly off Paradise Villas - beach entry, longer swim & can be current).
LCBR & Conch Club Divers will rent tanks. Perry (948 1000; littlcay@candw.ky) rents SUVs. Last w/end CC Divers were charging US$10 a tank & Perry US$83 per day. So for 2 of you doing 3 dives in 1 day that works out at less than US$25 per dive.
I stand corrected.
