History: Male Age 50 6Ft, 145 Lbs, fit BP 99-101/65-70. 2 sinus surgeries (1983, 2002) to repair deviated septum and clean out sinus. Daily doses of Clairidan 1x and Flonase 2x daily

July 9th I went diving and did so with out any noticeable event. The weak of July 11th I began experiencing pain like an ice pick under my left eye. Now having had sinus infections quite often, I began 500mg of Amoxicillin 3x a day on Monday (Mitra Valve Prolapse, so I keep it at home for the dentist visits), and on Thursday July 14th I saw my doctor (first available appointment at the VA) who figured as I did sinus infection and upped me to 1000 mg 3x a day.

Pain continued to increase until I had never had anything hurt that bad and on Sunday I called my dentist thinking it could be dental (pain under left eye between eye and mouth, could be sinus or dental right?). He prescribed Vicadan until I could come in on Monday at 1:30 when his office opened.

Monday at 10:00 the Vicadan was doing nothing and off to the hospital ER I went in intense pain. MRI of sinus showed clear sinus, dental x-ray and exam at dentist showed no need for root canal or other issues. ER shot me full of Demerol and something else hoping to break the pain cycle and sent me home.

Other factors: Pain was worse in the afternoons and we have had unusually hot weather. Pain was also waking me and keeping me up.

I feel better now, but still have a "discomfort" under the left eye, sinus are dry.

I went diving yesterday. On the way there I did 65mph down a 6% grade hill and noticed an increase in pain under the eye. During the dive I notice a squealing sound which I thought was emanating from the sinus cavity under my left eye.

Any ideas? Pain is not bad now and I have taken only one vicadan on the first day after the Demerol and feel much better but not perfect. I have also noted that while the pain is very low level, it is progressing again slowly each day to a bit more than the day before.

Any ideas?

Pasley, I'm not doctor, but I wouldn't dive until you get this figured out. I had a semi bad sinus infection early this year and I had the same kind of pain you're describing above my left eye. I would feel it at 5 feet free diving. I stayed out of the water and rested and ate well, no drinking, partying etc until it was clear. Nasty yellow discharge finally cleared up. Bummer amigo. I hope it clears.

I skipped last week. But I have had no discharge and after 10 days on Amoxicillin and the clear MRI I was comfortable it was not an infection and no risk of a reverse blockage.

But I am thinking it is dive related, perhaps some swollen tissues trapping some air. The dive last night was mostly fun, and partly diagonistic to see what happened and if it made it better or worse. The squealing sound, more or less to me confirmed dive related, that there is somthing in there. I will not dive again, until Sunday that is. Seeing a doctor today at the VA and hoping this board may have some words of wisdom I can take them.
