This thread most definitely belongs in Basic Scuba. Or BC.

I agree that an equipment forum is a great place to discuss equipment. As to nothing "technical" about this rig, I agree with you. It is possible to perform technical activities with this rig (whether sensible or not). For example, you could fill the 130 with 30/30 for a nice dive to 95' and I do believe that diving Trimix is absolutely technical.

However, the rig itself is not technical, just the use of the rig. Likewise you could forgo the usual set of doubles for back gas in favour of an H valve for reg redundancy and decide to carry EAN100 for accelerated deco and again you'd be using this rig in a technical manner. But again it would be your activities that are technical, not the basic rig.

All that being said, I strongly suspect that arguing BP+Wing is not technical is just the narcissism of small differences. To the vast majority of the diving community, this rig is "tech," whether we agree with their definition or not ;-)

Should it be elsewhere? I think I understand where you're coming from even if I'm not as much of a purist.

It looks like a nice gift from Santa to me. I persl. don't recognize DIR as anything more then just 3 letters, or the brand H as nothing more than just another marketer of gear among all the other offerings, but I do realize the OP is proud of his new gear and I bet will put it to good usage in the years ahead. Does not bother me that he posted here.....and it would have been ok in other sub forums too. The gear does not make the diver....the diver makes the gear. Kudos to the OP for his new stuff....rock on dude and enjoy the dives!!

Nice setup. I've heard that underwater mischief is always best on somebody trying a new rig :D.

:joke: I wouldn't do that till at least the 5th dive with someone, and only if I had a camera. Unfortunately, no camera for the New Years Eve Dive.:lotsalove:

Thanks for the kind words on my rig. I guess I should be a little more clear. This is what we call "baby steps". I would like to get all my gear at one time but due to other things in my life this is not an option. My plan is to change the wing out and switch to a two tank set up in the next year. Then I can use the single to go on trips with my OW wife. Before the tanks a dry suit is on my list. So what I wanted to do here was follow the steps to building a DIR rig but still be able to dive it as I go along. The concepts of this style have really opened my eyes. If you would like to address issues on it please due.

Over the last year I have spent many hours talking with DIR divers, reading this form, asking questions. This maybe not a "technical rig" but it has a good start to becoming one. Just a guy who spent some time to get it right so some day I can do it right. If this has to be moved to Basic Scuba then I'm in the wrong site all together. :D

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I dive a jacket BCD and 25 year old Al 80's so your rig "looks" technical to me :D

Congrats on your score. I spent so much money on gear throughout the year that for Christmas we have to buy something "for the house" :shakehead:
Bah humbug.

Nice Technical Rig, for apparent Recreational use. Crowd is a little tough.
