 I am going to Singapore in October and would like to do a week of diving and wanted to find someplace close to go from Singapore. Any recommedations would be great, even a liveaboard.

Could head north up into Malaysia - east coast - Redang, Perhentians. I know you will soon get recommendations from others on the site. How? Fly to Kuala Terrenganu or could investigate train if you have time and want to make it a bit of an experience.

My choice - as ever - leap on a Silk Air (sister to Singapore Airline) and head east to Manado, North Sulawesi. Flying time is only a couple of hours and transfer at Manado can be about 45 minutes to mainland dive resort such as www.lumbalumbadiving.com or other. A bit longer if you go across to Bunaken island. Lots of recommendations on this site. Depends on type of accommodation and type of diving you prefer.

North Sulawesi would be my first choice as well, given your time restriction. Bali, Sipadan, Derawan, and Redang are also good choices. As long as you're flying all the way to Singapore though, you might want to give yourself a few extra days to do a Komodo or PNG liveaboard.

as recommended above; if its a week, try Manado or Sipadan.. or if its a liveaboard, you can try the white manta or black manta.. try surfing google using these keyword searches, you'll see the details. Enjoy your trip..

You can try the Maldives or Bali (about 3.5 hours flight from Singapore). Phuket is good too and there are tons of liveaboards based on Phuket. Also you can try Sipadan or Mabul (longer trip due to flight + land trip + boat trip to get to resort). Post again if you've decided on the destination and I'm sure we can give you more specific details.
happy diving.

I think Sipadan would be your best bet.

A destination I found on the net but no one seems to ever mention is Mantanani. It looks fantastic http://www.virtualmalaysia.com/destination/Mantanani Island.html
From what I have seen is is a lot cheaper than Sipadan but should offer similar diving.
I intend looking into it further when I go back to Malaysia next time. :scubadive
A problem might be finding a dive buddy.
How tight is your time scale?

This is exactly what I'm going to do later this July. However, it really depends on how much time do you really have in between since it is still quite far from Singapore.

On the other hand, maybe you could try to go somewhere which is closer, like Pulau Perhentian, Redang or evern Tioman. Not sure these will provide world-class diving but nonetheless they will be pleasant getaways.

I arrive in Singapore this Sunday (august 20th). I'm there until Friday the 25th, but I work Tues - Friday. The only day I have is Monday. Any suggestions? From Singapore I fly to Sydney.

you're talking about arriving in August, right? If you are asking about diving on Monday, forget it. Unless you are cleaning ship hulls, no one dives here on weekdays. There is nothing unless you are keen to go to Sentosa and dive in the Underwater World. It's actually pretty cool but I think you probably need to book well in advance. It's still worth going to if you are doing nothing else.

Yes,... lol... August :) The summer is flying bye. Thank you for the information it's much appreciated. If you ever dive in the Northwest I can help :)

Saturday 26th I fly to Sydney from Singapore & I hope to dive the Satara & Seal Rocks, but I don't know if it's a day or over night trip? If it's a day trip I can go.
