Thought I'd post this little guy, which I think is a peppermint goby (nearest I could see in Humann). He's from Barbados and I didn't notice him at first as I was taking the perfectly formed braincoral!! However, I'm glad that I did see him eventually and took a close up.

I am getting more into the little critters these days and becoming more observant!

I've done a photo sequence so you can gradually zoom in on him the way I did.

And the boys have a highly elongate #2 dorsal spine... good grief that's tough to pick out! I've never seen this species before, but I've seen their cousins the glass goby. Apparently the males here also have the long spine. Their evolutionary divergence must not have been too far back.

You really need to take a magnifier (either through a camera or a hand lens) with you on a dive to pick out the fine features on these babies.

I love the pattern on the brain coral. The convolutions (if that's a word) are fantastic.
Yes. I didn't want to distract away from the thread, but the stinking coral was more interesting to me than the fish.
